Anne and I still managed to get out of town. Chadron State Park and the Pine Ridge was where we ended up. After driving through the first of many intense rain storms we made it to I-80's premier watering hole, Ole's Big Game Lounge. By the time we finished off dinner and dug out the dead bird from under Anne's rear tire, the rain was with us and it wasn't going anywhere. I have'nt seen it rain like that in a long time and after missing a dear by inches, we made to C.S.P. by midnight with just a light mist coming down.
The morning brought one last shower after which the day broke into one of the most perfect riding days I've had in recent memory. Anne and I hiked up the trail to get an idea of what we could expect. What we got was some of the best singletrack in Nebraska, I couldn't believe I was descending a rocky trail and still in the state. Although the loop was only 6 miles it has some pretty sweet sections. Soon after though we quickly found out how remote a location the Pine Ridge area actually is. Most of trails, though probably sweet 10 years ago, were extremely overgrown. It was strange riding through knee high prairie grass but rolling over water bars at the same time. So much potential, but so in the middle of knowhere. We needed 10 guys on Moto's to burn the trail in ahead of us. I'd love to go back out but you spend alot of time bush wacking.
We were able to stop off in Alliance and visit Nebraska top rated artistic site CARHENGE. Oh what a spectacle. Gremlins, Volants, Plymouths, Caddies, Ahh, it's a beautiful sight of Dee-triots finest.
So what next? Well after checking out the potential of western Nebraska, I'm heading back but gonna have to look into some Black Hills riding for the next trip. Ciao, MOD

HEY MOD AND ANNE,
CONGRATS ON THE BLOG. VERY COOL. NOW I HAVE SOMETHING TO READ OVER MY LUNCH HOURS!
JUST WANTED TO COMMENT ON THE GEM THAT IS NORTHWEST NE. I CAMPED IN CSP MYSELF ABOUT 5-6 YEARS AGO AND WAS SO STOKED ABOUT THE "CLIFFS" AND RIDING THE RIDGE. YES IT WAS SHORT BUT FUN. I THINK YOU WENT THROUGH THE SAME GRASSY FIELD I DID EXCEPT I TURNED AROUND. WERE THE COWS LOOKING AT YOU LIKE WHAT'RE YOU DOING HERE? POTENTIAL IS HIGH THERE. TOO BAD IT'S SO FAR AWAY. WE DROVE HWY 2 BACK AND IT HAS TO BE ONE OF THE PRETTIEST HIGHWAYS I'VE BEEN ON. CARHENGE. BEEN THERE TOO. WIERD. HAD TO STOP AT A LOCAL GAS STATION FOR DIRECTIONS. THEY WEREN'T TOO THRILLED TO TELL ME. IT WASNT' WHAT I EXPECTED. VERY REMOTE AND DESOLATE.
ANYWAY, THOUGHT I'D JUST SHARE MY EXPERIENCE.
ADIOS FOR NOW.
ROXY
