no, not more confessions. But I'm about to sin again. got some inside dirt today. Everyone better listen up.
I try to keep an eye out for new stuff and working at a shop has some benefits, not to mention my inside the industry connections. Well, I've known for a while that the the GF sugar was getting a revamp. I had to swear to secrecy but I've seen the spy photos, not real photos, more like renderings. The sugar looks awesome and will come in 29'r and 26'r Versions. Gone is the psuedo four bar link replaced with...sorry that's where I gotta stop. All I can say is for those of you who know what I've ridden and liked in the past, it's based off that design. They've also added a new bike between the Cake and the King Fishers. It looks pretty tough. Anyway, there might be a legit 29'r FS next year, I could be inticed to make the switch.
For you SS fully ridgid blokes, the second coming of the Bontrager Switchblade is on the horizon. Developed in the late 80's by Keith himself, the patented design was used by Rock Shox on the original RS-1. This will be a pretty sweet fork. From the looks, disc only. 26'r and 29'r compatible.
I'll be hittin' the Trek dealer show in a month. Real spy photos to follow. I rarely get excited about this stuff but the boy's in Madison and Marin have been hard at work...and it shows.

lets see that fork!
From drawings I saw, it looks kinda like a man sized version of the Wound Up carbon road and cross fork. Steel though.
I have a feeling next year is gonna be 29'r crazy. With the new Fishers and the new Kona coming out. The component manuf. need to respond with new stuff.
the components are there too. the rims are there. altho there could be a few more options. mavic could have a racey disk only rim. but that asym bonti disk rim is all i need. tires are there. who needs a millions tire choices anyways? there could be a few more forks for the cry babies!!! fox. manitou with 29er versions. it's all there primed for consumerizm.
i think you (modest mod) mentioned it the other day. 29ers will be looked at as having higher rotational weight. because they do. but it is to your benifit sometimes. not always a disadvantage. ask bootch how well that pink bike climbs sometime.
I guess when I say manufacturers I'm talking more fork and rim stuff. I know some of that stuff can be optimized much better.
I'm actually getting more and more excited about the Trek dealer show. I really want to test the new 29'r FS. I think it is going to be named the Procaliber. Blast from the past name there. Gone is the Sugar name. Supposedly us Trek store jokers get a half day at the show all to ourselves so no fighting crowds to test these new bikes. Should be sweet.
I dunno know. I've always been really comfortable on my cross bike offroad. It rails corners really well and I figured out how to wheelie it last year. So if a 29'r can do the same I should like it. I just got so many parts for 26.
a quick look at the mtbr forum on 9ers will reveal how many folks who have been long time bikers like ourselves have dumped all their 26" stuff after a few months on the proper adult wheel size. ha.
