Okay, after halloween is kind of lame, I agree. After much thought I think it would work out to have it the weekend of the cross race. Seeing how the racing is Sat and Sun, those that race can at least get one sober run in. Plus all you Stincoln kids can stay up here and witness the craziness first hand.
So Saturday, October 22nd IT IS! Pancakes and I will look into getting the 9'er or Travatos, whatever werx. Shim threw in Bone Pecker, anybody have any other ideas for bands?
Stay tuned punk asses.

Just a heads up, the schedules for the 'cross season will be late day races on Saturday and earloy races on Sunday. That weekend is also the opener of the MACC Series. The Lincoln "Beer Ride" is October 15. What about the week before, October 8 or 9. I am going to BUMMED if you Omahole folks don't show for 'cross...
Unfortunately John, the impact crater that the Omahole pub crawl creates is much greater than just the race scene. And it's the only event all year that gets Road, XC, DH and urban types together. You should come check it out some year, you'd be impressed, I was.
What better way to kick off the '06 addition than by watching the best 'cross racing in the region and then following it up the next day with more racing. Nothing better than being hung over, laying in the grass watching bike racing. bloody mary's anyone?
We know the pub crawl and the beer ride are October staples to the cycling scene so why do we insist on packing races around and on top of them?
'cross is sweet, I know, I've been doing it in one shape or form longer than anyone. I'm your biggest advocate in promoting this thing up north.
So just chilll, til the next episode.
I understand...but I also know that people were wondering why all of the 'cross races were in Lincoln. We are bringing it back up to the Metro and then this!?! First, the Fat Boys break up and now THIS!?! I suppose as long as folks still come out to race and support the series, I am koo. It's just A LOT of work. Speaking of which, I need you to call me re: course design. L8
i hate to say it, but i think the cross scene needs more support than a beer ride. even a beer ride that has been going on for almost a decade. I can't imagine how much work it is for john to put these on, and it would be nice to have folks there.
but besides Mod,not to many of the omaha folks race cross so i guess it makes sense that they would rather do the beer ride. and you can always race hung over, it's not that bad, you just have to find a nice tree to puke next too, this happened to me pretty much every race last year, and had tons of fun.
plus, the way the cross races have been going they are a little party all on their own.
you omaholers building little kids choppers again?
your pal,
nate
All I am saying is NO ONE told me the Fat Boys broke up...
or the doobie brothers!
The 'cross series has been going since 2000. In the past, we have tried a lot of combinations...every Sunday for two months, every other Sunday, etc. The thought process behind this year's series was to focus on one weekend a month and maximize the 'cross racing action. I had been told by some Omaha folks that more people from Omaha would participate in the series, if there were races in Omaha. So, I met with Omaha Parks & Rec and the opening weekend of the Nebraska CX Series AND the Mid-America Cross Cup is in Omaha at Standing Bear Lake. I have put a lot of time, effort and money into growing this discipline of the sport. Believe me Anne, I do not take your thoughts as being rude. Quite the contrary, I feel you make some good points. My only reason for making the comment I did re: the Pub Crawl date is the fact that I am trying to make it easier for Omaha folks to take part in the 'cross series by bringing it to their backyard...and well, you know the rest. Honestly, I might be worrying about absolutely nothing. My hope is that with the race schedule format; late races on Saturday and early races on Sunday...riders will stay overnight in Omaha and take part in both days. Regardless, I am going to put on two days of great 'cross racing at a fantastic venue. I am looking forward to some fast racing, good music and the opportunity to call the races. I hope that the Omaha contingent recognizes this and represents...I am still bummed about the Fat Boys, though.
Its great to see all the passion for cycling events here...
Two things ya'll:
1..How "late" is "late" on Saturday for the cx races? I mean, pub crawl action starts at seven. So even if I race at 4pm, I'll be ready to meet the pub crawl at 7pm. And I'll need a drink, anyway. Its the Sunday morning early races that seem iffy....
2. I don't think you're talking about more than eight people that would be involved in this conflict between pub-crawl & cx. I know we want to grow that number, so if Pub crawl fliers could include an invite to attend/spectate/race Sat's Cx race, in costume no less, then couldn't we help both causes?
3. I'm too young to know who the fat boys are.
heheh, history ... flashback 1994 (or thereabouts)... branched oak lake, the "new" mtb course that had just been put in there. the venue of the Nebraska Cyclocross championships. i think i got 3rd to schlake and MOD that day. out of maybe 6 of us that entered ...my how things have changed. like, we all have cross bikes now ... no-one was on one that day.
keep it up john jr.

I have photos from that race. Was Christian out there too. There was another race before that at B.O. where the barriers were like 30" tall. I don't know how Rosina made it over them!
