Representing Omaha at the 3rd Annual Iowa 24 Hour Race for The Ligers was myself (Roxz), RF, Josh Carell and Larry Kintner. The 7 mile course was 95% single track. Lot's of quick ups and downs, off camber straightaways and switchbacks. A single speeder's dream coarse but oddly, there was only one SS team. The highlight was the 4-man unicycle team. Harde core! The rest of the field contained two co-ed teams (us included) and a few 3 man teams and then all the 4-man teams and solos, which combined, totaled between 80-100 racers.
Our team did really well. (MOD, nobody had to ride for me!) RF's first lap was only a minute faster than his last, so consistancy was the name of the game. Not a lot of drama. 3 of the four paid our dues to the trail gods. RF had some technicals around the 3-4 am time frame with double flats and then a spoke issue. RF and I had to share a light cuz my bulb was burnt out. Josh had a flat on his and the team's last lap! Nobody puked, missed their lap or passed out. Just a ton of racing, resting and eating.
As far as event organization, we have no complaints. Live music greeted us on the way back to the start finish from 9-midnight. They had a FREE pasta feed at midnight, food for sale, hot showers and if any of you were on Ragbrai, the coffee bus was there. This thing was so cool. It was a rare stock 60s style VW bus that was built extra tall. The "bus driver" was up all night selling espressos and lattes.
If you've never done a 24 hour this event would be perfect. It was run pretty smoothly, we all won a raffle prize, got a goody bag at check in and there was plenty of camping space. Good times had by all!

Sounds like a cool event. We need one of these next year. I'm glad you didn't let RF steal your laps. He was talkin' all silly for a while. good work
Way to go team liger! Thanks for the pics and story...i almost felt like i was there. 252 team miles, wow!
For you number crunchers...
Lap Times Totals, across 9 laps:
RF 5:26
LK 5:44
Rx 6:10
JC: 6:03
My fastest lap time was 33mins. Cam said he was rollin flat 30's. Thats screamin. Its his home course though, I know I felt faster after getting to know the course. Lotsa fun, would be worth a weekend camping/riding trip again sometime.
If Larry keeps riding times like that, he'll be racing expert next year. No doubt.
Josh, thanks for the props. I couldn't let my male counterparts down! Even though y'all are my pals, there was still pressure to perform! Thanks for the support from everyone. I think we had a good team vibe and it all just went so well.
It would be cool to have something that big here. We'd need at least a 6 or 7 mile loop.
HMMMMMMM!
Glad you guys made it. This was my 2nd time racing solo here. It's one of those events that is only going to get larger. Oh, and the course F'n rocks hard core! Thanks for coming up and saying Hi! If they do the 12 hour event in S.D. again I will go. Rest up guys!!!
