Nothing like building trail when there's a lite snowfall coming down. After talking with The Real Deal and MIB about some possible reroutes to lessen some of the steep climbing, I headed out this morning to flag it. The Deal dropped off his biridge over lunch and checked out my reroute. We decided to go with it so I started raking it in. It should add a couple minutes to the trail and will greatly lessen the grade of what was a very steep climb.
As you cross the bridge, instead of taking a left and heading straight up the fall line, you'll swing right and slowly traverse towards the old picnic shelter and swing. It loops around and rejoins the original trail on it's last traverse which takes you to the high point of the park.
I also did some bench work below the paintball fort and set some broken concrete to add a small rock segment. It's really small only about five feet long but it makes for a nice little change of terrain.
Plenty to do on Saturday, I can't wait.

Nicely done. Looks like a quality bridge. Can't wait to ride it again.
Very nice.
You definitely had some warm cloths on today to brave the elements.
Hopefully it warms up for Saturday!
I'll bring out a 3-4 footer if the wood fairies haven't stolen from my stash.
I hate to be the one to say it, but what are the odds of some freeride influence in Jewell? I don't want to piss anyone off.
I wouldn't say never but very doubtful. personally I think we should look into some log/freeride/DH stuff at L&C. More elevation = more fun.
I've thought about L&C before. Maybe too steep though? I'll have to do some hiking and check it out though. Maybe off the beaten path.
If Jewell Park is a long enough course, I think it would be a perfect place for a psycowpath race. Not only does it have a good degree of difficulty, the spectator aspect is amazing. Standing up top, you can see so much action in such a small area. More spectators would be great. Spectators turn into riders, riders turn into racers. Win Win.
WORD! Plus slow guys like me can use the momentum to an advantage. I'm all about the flow, not so much about the climbin'
You comin' out Saturday?
Don't rule out the freeride influence at jewell long term. I think down the road we can look closer at it. Like manawa we have to walk before we run with the land manager. Let us ease into it and see what happens.
Down in the ravine there could be some fun log riding set up in the future and if we shoot big, maybe a dirt jump area on the old horse arena. Please let Real Deal and I initiate it. If folks go in and start setting that stuff up, it will hurt our efforts down the road. As with all trails, talk to the land manager/THOR rep before doing any new trail building. I know you all know this, but just a friendly reminder to all. If you ain't racing cross than we hope to see you all Saturday AM.
PS. If anyone is debating between cross and trail work, go race. We have all winter to do trail work and will have plenty to do. Support our local race scene if you can this weekend in Lincoln
