I've led a few of you down the wrong SS path. Not that I'm a great SS guy to talk to but I've answered a few of my own questions. I complained about how hard riding an SS at Platte was. Well, I realized this morning that when I thought I was riding a 34x18 out there I was actually riding a 34x16. Oops!!! So to all of you that I told 34-18 was too big a gear at Platte, well, it's probably about perfect.

I run a 32x18 on my 29er and a 32x16 on my 26er. That seems about right for me.

Is that the Manitou?

Why yes, that is the Manitou. It's quite a nice SS.

Way to use that water bottle cage!!!!

Hooray for the offseason!!!

Can I buy a cage-fit 40oz at the Trek Store??

Sorry RF, the cage is pure old school 1992 Ibis hot unit thermos cage.

40's are cheaper than a replacement thermos.

mod,
i haven't been out to platte in a long time (a few years). people always told me platte was not ss'able, geared rigs were necessary. i know nate and a few others have done platte ss, but i don't know what gear they run. i would have thought one needed a 32x20 or something like that, but now i think i'll give it a try. i'm running 34x18 on my BUSS.
