Action from Madrid

World Cup action in Madrid. Mountain biking must be making a comeback because there were 215 riders on the start line. World/Olympic Champ Julien Absalon won it with Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski the top american in 22nd. Gunn-Rita Dahle won the women's.

I can barely imagine lining up with 100 riders, let alone 200+, CRAZY! Posted by Picasa

Last summer when I did the WORS cup I lined up with 125. What a nightmare the first lap was.

Mod, I see you are using Picasa2 now. How do you like it?

That amount of people in any race is just insane! In a road race crit if you were last to line up, you'd be getting lapped by the lead rider right after you got past the start line. That would be sweet if mountain biking made a comeback. It's due for some limelight.

Picasa rules. Not that you were asking me.

The Laramie Enduro has 300ish riders. Last year it started on a narrow road. I line up in the back, because I'm slow, and it takes a good 20-30 seconds for folks to clear out enough for me to get rolling.

And then it dumped into singletrack within a mile or two. HUGE traffic jam.
