Battle Royale Memories

FFL has lots of pics from the Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath's first marathon - the Platte River Battle Royale. I like blogs for posting pics and quick blurbs but I still prefer forums for organizing comments on one topic, thus I opened a topic on the Platte River forum on NCN Battle Royale Marathon Forum

To tell you the truth, positive feedback encourages those who work hard to put on a good event. Constructive feedback helps us see things from your perspective and hopefully produces a better event the next time. If you would drop by the forum and leave some memories you took from the Battle Royale, all those involved in putting this event on would appreciate it.

Course was in great shape, the promotion and organization was seemless. I lost interest after about five laps, did a couple more for good measure and rushed off to three graduaton parties. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to stick around for the bull talk after.

The only down side was with such a long race and so many people being lapped, there were plenty of issues trying get around lapped riders. When I race out of state this isn't an isssue most people step aside. This wasn't the case yesterday. Maybe during the next one in the prerace meeting people should be advised of how to allow someone to pass. I know there is a NORBA rule for this. It isn't as much of an issue on shorter races.

Probably open for some interpretation.

I was very pleased with the entire event. Kudos to KKS, Jeff Avey, Paul Chapman, John Rokke, Brock, RF, Rox, Bob and the rest of the CycleWorks Team for putting on a great race.

I thought the LeMans style start worked out well. It helped spread out the pack a little. Did anyone get a pick of the start?

Shim, I can see how passing could have been an issue. Making an announcement regarding proper racing etiquette prior to the next Marathon race would be a prudent gesture.

First off, wanted to say that yesterday was an absolutely great experience - this was my first 'marathon' race, and I had a great time (I definately feeling it today)! The course was near perfect, and I thought the organization and execution of the race were top notch, thanks so much to all who worked to make it that way! Here's a plug for using the online registration - it made my time at the registration table about 30 seconds - I'd highly encourage that to become the preferred method to register for future races!

As one of the 'lapped' riders, I can offer perspective from my standpoint. By my 5th and 6th lap, it seemed there were faster riders coming up on me every few minutes needing to get by. Most all of the time, I could hear them approaching, and voluntarily moved off to the side of the trail (or even stopped) to let them by. The few times I was surprised by someone coming up from behind, politeness was the norm with a simple "passing on your left", or "can I get by, buddy" - totally cool. However, one on occassion going through the rock garden, I had to unclip to prvent and endo, and was attempting to regain my balance to try and get "out of the way". A faster rider came up from behind and made an unpleasant comment telling me to "get the **** out of his line". I can understand his perspective, especially nearing the end of the race when we're all tired and such, but please try to remember, most riders out here aren't making a living competing for cash prizes, but are enjoing the sport and the comradery, and learning how to become better riders. As a positive example, I was even fortunate enough to receive a word of encouragement from Cameron Chambers as he flew past me early in my 3rd lap!

All in all it was a great experience, and I looking forward the next marathon event.

Glad you enjoyed it Tim. Sorry to hear about the rude racer. Not much you can do about that. It takes all kinds, I guess. I appreciate your attitude about the whole deal. Thanks. See you at the next one.

Yeah, I'm with cornbread, and I can say 99% of my crew I ride and race with would say

Please let me buy, or
rider left.
or something, but never be rude,

we take great pride here in our racing sceen about etitcutte (sorry spelling) and hospitality.

having someone being rude when your in that area is just wrong,
or being rude when racing.. wrong as well...

and well, all I can say is, the world is full of assholes, and Karma is a bitch, all you can do is smile knowing that, that guy is going to get a flat some day due to that comment,

and hopefully it'll be during a race and he'll be outa the money at the time,

just outa the money so it's sweet karma

my adivce...
smile and ride on knowing your a better person than that...

Super glad you had a good time,

I can promise that for our next two races thoes issues will be brought up in the next rider meeting at Ponca, and at Indian caves,

they should also be brought up at Lewis and Clark, just in case the super fast guys get into that sitch, that they can pass with ease.

once that time in the race has come, well, it doesn't matter that much,

and us slow guys, well you have to pay attention to what's goin on behind you as well,,

you don't wana effect someone's outcome do ya .... no.
let their fitness be the judge,
don't become some experts excuse for getting one spot back...

the race was awesome. i had an incredible time, and though it's always challenging at times to pass slower riders on singletrack, i didn't have any issues to speak of during the race. most of the racers were like tim (thank you tim!) in that they'd do their best to move to the side when they heard me coming. sometimes the timing wasn't quite right, so i waited until it was better. simple as that.

most of the time, the timing worked out fine anyway.

also, thank you to everyone on the course that offered words of encouragement as i passed. that was really cool.

thanks again for a great race!

cheers,
