Who's the guy who just dropped your ass like you were standing still? Brian Kelley, that's who. So who's Brian Kelley? Well for all you newbies out there Brian was one of the first mountain bike racers in Nebraska, and arguably the most naturally talented. Brian turned heads in 1993 and 1994 when he qualified and competed for the US National team at the World Championships in Kircharten, Germany and Vail, Colorado. He was unbeatable unless your name was Steve Tilford. He never left Nebraska. Never trained in Colorado. Just rode hard as hell on gravel roads, singletrack at Platte and Wilderness, and relied on his old school motocross skills to carry him through.
We used to travel to a ton of NORBA Nationals together. I was stoked to see Brian in the Parking lot at Platte this morning. Haven't ridden with him in about a year. Almost felt like 1993 again. The best part was Brian telling me how stupid it was for me to be riding a singlespeed! Typical Kelley comment, I love that guy! Hope you make it out next week buddy.
