I was out at the Manawa mudfest today and there was some discussion as to whether the race should go on or not with the rain and muck. Seems there was a "trail guy" there and he expressed some concerns over the damage being done to the trails. Someone says,"Who is this trail guy?" Someone else says, "Steve Dickey." "Who the heck is Steve Dickey?" someone asks.
Well I'll tell you who Steve Dickey is!
Steve is one of the guys that you never really notice these days. He's actually the THOR trail captain for Manawa. You know THOR, the group that the Psycowpath series supports. He slips out and does trail work during the day while everyone else is working(He has funky work hours, spends time at church with his girlfriend, and her dog). He is in cahoots with the Lake Manawa ranger to the point that they actually let them use the parks big commercial mower to mow. He also rides those funky hours so you may not even see him riding much but he is one of the most capable log riders around.
That's Steve now. About 5 years ago, he won the Psycowpath series as a sport open. He raced for UNO in the collegiate nationals years before that. He has ridden and raced all over the country. The entire time, he was doing trail work. Maintaining current trails, cutting in new trails. He still managed to have time to train and win!
You might recognize some of his handywork. Ever heard of Lewis and Clark, Swanson, Ponca, Platte River State Park? I'm not saying he was solely responsible for any of this. He won't claim it either. He'll probably be mad at me for writing this. He is just on of the many people over the years that have helped. He is one of the more active guys and I can think of few that have stayed at it as long as him. Don't give him all of the credit but remeber his name and when someone says, "Who's Steve Dickey?", you'll be able to say,"I know that dude!"
Wouldn't you like to be a Steve Dickey too? Check out the links.

His alias or Porn Name is Dickmiester, a name given to him by another trail guy who is no longer with us, his name was Tony. I spend little time hanging out with Miester these days and it is my loss.
Thanks Miester the trails were awesome!

Wait a second. Hold on. Slow down. Now, who is Steve Dickey? :}
Yo Meister -- I apologize for seeming like I was dissing on you before the race. I was trying to be a jokester, and how I did it wasn't cool.
Thanks for calling me on it. It was not a personal attack, and I think you know I have maximum love and respect for you and the awesome work you've done to improve the riding for everyone.
Thanks Steve!
Cheers,
MG
word up steve.. nice work to everyone who puts in the hours on trail work. if it wasn't for everyone's help a lot of our rides wouldn't be as fun.
One of the things I miss about NE is being able to do trail work with the likes of Steve. It's hard to believe that one can be so humble that others do not know of him. It's good to see him get some recognition.
