Dog Days

Welp, these are the dog days of summer and I ain't doing crap. My body just shuts down in the heat and humidity. No desire to do anything. All I want is to sit around and wait for the cool down.

But in the mean time while I enjoy the A/C, I've been purging the closests, finding old stuff, some of it junk, some of it not. I came upon my stash of old racing jerseys. Yep, that's right folks, I'm a bit of pack ratt. I'm really bad at throwing stuff away. So I have at least what I think is some cool old stuff and it doesn't do me any good just looking at it myself so I thought I'd share MOD's racing history via the looks of the jerseys I've worn

v.1 Nebraska Racing Team circa 1985

My first team jersey, I was 14. Now that's some old ass lycra/spandex. 21 years old in fact. Probably the only guys around anymore that remember this jersey are Coach KB, Jeff Hansen and Mark Anderson. Team sponsors: Cycle Works and Trek. The bikes were hot pink Trek 770's. Schlake still has one in his garage. It was Jeff's that I bought from him at the end of the season, then I sold it to Schlake a couple years later. The bike has reached cult status in Lincoln, simply known as Pepto.

So that means it's taken the bike Industry 20 years to come full circle. Pink is back. Lycra jerseys are not. I remember having the Cycle Works logo tanned onto my back because the material was so thin. They didn't have sublimated jerseys then, so they were just screen printed. Pretty sweet when you were hangin' at the pool.

Sorry Cornbread, maybe I'll let you borrow it sometime. Just wait, there's more where this came from.

Guess I'll be coming to Dead Moines to make up some lost time!

I should probably post a pic of my Omaha Pedalers jersey, circa 1981. It was some type of synthetic wool.

Yeah, screen printed jerseys don't breath so well! Nothin' like being coated in rubberized ink.

my first cycleworks jersey was the red one with the silk screened stuff. at that time the logos were pretty small. i'll have to send a pic as a reminder.
