Sometimes things go wrong...

Was down at Indian Cave SP camping with the family a week ago, and the four of us were putzing around some trails at night with lights, going maybe 5 mph and a stick jams into my rear derailleur pulley, and shabang! the hanger breaks. Been riding since '93 and never happened to me. I'm thinking of all the races, rides and other dumb stuff I do on my bike - how is it possible for it to break in those conditions (?).

Anyway, so with my Scalpel hanging on the wall, I stick my eggbeaters on an old (remember bio-pace and U-brakes?) Bridgestone that Brackenberry gave me (I use it as a commuter bike to ride to work). Well, I wanted to ride with Donna at Swanson so I throw on my eggbeaters on the Bridgestone. But then when I took the pedals out one of them came out with the crank arm threads packed all over the pedal threads. (yeah, I knew something was up when it got hard to turn...)

Nice.

So now I'm thinking I've wrecked my pedals and can't ride two of my bikes. (I since removed the aluminum from the pedal threads with a bench grinder and a wire wheel).

Well, my kids recently found a Huffy in the ditch at their cousins house, rusted, flatted, and banged up. So with a ton of WD-40 and a new tube - I'm now riding a Huffy to work - that'll make you appreciate technology - the thing handles like a shopping cart. (Does anyone have an old set of 175mm cranks lying around they could part with?) . I'm grateful for a free bike, but I can't endure many more miles on the Huffy.

I've got an shimano octalink LX crankset and bb, 175mm. I only raced on it for about 4 years, so very little wear and tear on it.

Bummer, I'll dig through my stuff and see what I got.

Bummer on your bikes, but way to remain diligent on the Huffy.

if you can fit on my austro diamler 60cm road bike,

you can ride it as long as you want,

it's a fixed gear though. and she needs a seat. but it's sittin on my wall, and you can deffinatly use it.

70's lugged steal.

If your interested let me know, Thad has the front wheel, but he lives close and it will be easy to retrieve....

As soon as my new XT crank shows up in the next 4 days, I would be willing to let my Bontrager Race Lite crank go for cheap...
