Racing at Manawa is nothing less than the pure fun. I missed the race last year but made up for it this time around. The field sizes were big. Especially the begginer women's and kid's race. The beginner women's might have been the best race of the day. It came down to two up sprint (sorry ladies, don't know your names)with CC only 20 feet or so behind. Nice racing ladies. I missed how the last lap of the expert open finished but it had to be pretty good as well with A-Ron and Cam duking it out. It was fun as hell being in the mix for a while. Woodman took another SS win. Kev another master's win. Josh another sport win. That's about all I can pull off the top of my head. We'll have to wait for NebCycling results. It's always a good day hanging with the extended family. Pics below, check out 3P0 for pics and pre-lim results.

Well, I don't know about pure fun. I hadn't bonked so badly since the 05 Firecracker 50. Went out too fast on the first lap trying to stay on Jeff's wheel. Couldn't recover and went into survival mode to finish the race. Should have rerun the TNR where I stayed aerobic and was faster. Even so, glad to participate and then encourage others from the shade of a tent.
Great turnout in spite of the heat. Thanks to Ted and Omaha Velo crew for hosting the race. Thanks Roxy, Tom, Martin, Corey, and the guy I don't know for helping MANY sign up as THOR members.
Expert open and Sport open also had large, competitive classes. Top six or seven Experts were within 30 seconds of each other going into the final lap. Aaron saved a little more than everyone else. Have to mention Savory getting 5th on his Ferrous SS! With those long, straight flats, that is incredible! I didn't think you had the distance.
Thanks Dale, let's just say that after 23 of my 36 years spent riding bikes seriously, I have a few miles in my legs.
Your cheers were much appreciated on every lap.
I thought married life and the onset of old age might make you a little soft!
Read your blog, nice replay from your perspective.
The guy's name is Shane. He and I took over after you guys went out for your races.
Shane has been a GREAT help during the last trail days and during the whole event at Manawa. He spent the whole day out there, selling memberships. THANKS!
I agree with MOD, that this has been the best beginner women's race yet. We had, I think 8 racers, which is cool!!! It was a real race at least on my part, I raced every foot of that course...
I crashed after the log-crossing with the rocks in front and back of it. Why, I don't know, but I lost precious time and a lot of these ladies are lightening fast!
So, it happened that I found myself by the time of the second straightaway in almost last position.
Right there, I kicked my body in "battle-mode" and started to go for it.
I passed one by one, taking advantage of my better lines and probably better knowledge of the technical stuff.
I passed the girl in third position on the last straightaway and I looked down on my HRM and it said 183, holy crap!, but I just kept going and like MOD said I almost caught the 2 leaders. I had them a few times and they got away again and so on and then we finally ran out of race....:)
Good times!
