Sad news - 1st fatality on Tranquility mtb trail

A 51 year old avid cyclist had a fatal heart attack Tuesday night, Aug 21, at Tranquility. His name was Bobby B., riding a Bianchi. He was riding solo and stopped to talk with Mark K. While talking, he fell over. Mark, who is certified in CPR, thought he was having a seizure at first. He called 911 and performed CPR while a couple runners directed the EMTs back. They did what they could but he didn't come back. Bobby has a wife and three kids. I suspect prayer for the family would be appreciated.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Since I was with him when he had his heart attach, I have the contact information of his family and can call them and see what the family might need. I am sure anything would be greatly appreciated. Maybe if one the local bike shops could be a local drop off point. I could allways pick the items up and deliver them to the family. I personally got them a gift certificate to Target.

This is really sad to hear, thought and prayers go to the family.

This should also be a reminder to everyone, please as we all age go to your physician and get your routine checkups and if anything has been in your family for any period of time ask for further testing.

One of the VW guys I know decided at age 52, to go in for a stress test because he had a family history of cardiac problems. He when for the test on a Monday and because his condition was so bad he was in for a quadruple bypass on Wednesday the same week. His doctor told him he probably would not have made it another six months.

Go to your doc and take care of your ticker, and everything else.

I didn't know Bob. Mark, can you find out if he was part of a bike club or frequented a local bike shop?

If he didn't have either, we can have an envelope at Bike Masters to collect donations and gift certificates.

This is a really sad deal. I'm hopeful that his family will find peace with his passing and in many ways we should all hope to go out doing something we love as much as cycling. But it was clearly too soon for him to go.

It's a brutal reminder of how lucky we all are to be alive.

Dale, I talked to the family and they said that he would go to the Bike Rack for parts. His family is also thinking about putting together a Bike Ride to help raise some money for his family.
