Yes, il Pirata. I got to see Marco at the 1999 Giro, days before he was disqualified for "doping".Doper or not, he was a joy to watch dance up the climbs and a national hero in Italy.Gotta love checking out a pic of il Pirata with a bottle of grog in hand.
I was there in '95 when he set the record. I was 1/3 of the way up and have a pic of him attacking the leaders. He was in his big ring !!!! Amazing........
