Folks, its gravel time. Not too much fun to ride around compacted snow when you know you could hike it faster. And Martin hasnt yet built a leaf blower with a heating element to clear off trails.
Meet NEAR lewis and clark, we'll ride north on gravel through iowa. This will be a good opportunity to do some fast cadence riding on relatively flat roads.
From i-29, take the 25th(?) st exit as if you're heading to lewis and clark, but rather than turning a left at the first light, head straight south about 2 blocks to a public park, ROberts Park. Park here at 6pm, ride starts at 6:15pm, we'll head out then back and go get some eats. Larry misses everyone even more than I do, so he's coming to town and hopes to see many of you.
Don't be a wanker.
EMAIL ME IF YOU'RE COMING.

Be careful out that way. After crossing a bridge ( 20 min in ) there are two large dogs. It's good sprint training though.
I would hate to be the slow one out of the group.
Manawa was interesting this morning. Damon and I managed two full laps before the sun burned the fog off. Didn't get as cold last night in the woods so the snow was kinda soft in parts, the long straight trails where the snowmobiles have packed the snow down are good now when frozen. Some areas in the single track where the quad drove are still a little challenging but rideable.
luckily,no dog encounters.
Could someone post the route y'all took? I'm unfamiliar with the roads over there, but I'd like some suggestions for good gravel rides.
Thanks!
~Chris
Snow ride Sunday at Manawa?
70% chance of new snow!
We took N 25th St north of I29. It went to the right and parallel 29 to 680, eventually crossing over 680 and back to paralleling 29. Try the mapping websites (google, mapquest, etc) with satellite views to identify gravel roads.
I was the slow one and as Ryan mentioned, fortunately no dogs.
I've been wearing regular clothes biking around sbl, to work, and stores lately, going slow enough not to work up a sweat. Somehow I thought I would ride that pace for the tnr so I wore regular clothing. I rode too fast which brought out the sweat; my butt got sore because I couldn't stand very long at my high cadence (55" fixed gear); and 1.5+ hours with only water had me running on empty.
Everyone who came out - aaron, larry, rf, and myself - were glad we did, though aaron got cold hands and I cold feet.
A lot of people in the old market last night as we ate at michaels.
I've didn't realize how many Christmas lights were put up downtown. Worth seeing.
Ryan, Thanks for picking Iowa! Dad had to fill up my gas tank! Hope it was a fun ride!!!!
