Whacha rollin' on?

Being a bit of newbie with mtbs, I was wondering what tires people favor for the courses around here. I've just about worn out the tires that came on my Salsa, and am in the market for dry condition tires and general purpose/tacky condition tires. Any recommendations you can give would be most appreciated.

Hi Mathguy, I run Maxxis Ignitors on my 29ers and love them. Tons of grip in the corners. http://www.maxxis.com/products/bicycle/product_detail.asp?id=240

I love the hutchinson python's I've been riding. It handles the terrain we have here well and they roll fast.

Hey,

I would like to tag on to mathguy's question and ask for any opinions that 29er guys may have about the panaracer rampage. I am considering either the rampage or the schwable racing ralph for my fully rigid RL monocog 29er. Trails are mostly dry single track in Lincoln and some riding in Omaha this summer.

Peace out

Lots of 29er guys are leaning on the Hutchinson Python 29. The Bontrager XR is a popular choice and it comes in multiple widths.

My personal favorite is the XR with about 32 psi.

I ride the rampages on my monocog 29er. I really like the grip and volume of these tires. Until recently, i would've given these a shining review, however I am currently having trouble with the tires slipping on the rims. I haven't yet determined if it's a problem with the tire or a problem with me.

The Bontrager XR's are a better cornering tire than the Pythons.

I like the IRC Mythos XC, but know I am in the minority on that.

I like the pythons as well. They roll great on pavement, then roll great in most dirt conditions as well.

Anyone mind if a lowly 26'er weighs in? I'm running a WTB Mutanoraptor in the front and a Kenda Klaw(stolen off my kid's Iron Horse) in the rear, and I'm pretty happy with that combo. Awesome traction on climbs and in turns, and they roll pretty good too. I've got a lot of weight to control, so traction is a top priority for me.

nanoraptors work on 293ers. not killer traction, but find a faster tire with that more comfort, can't. otherwise i've ridden xr's, crossmarks, the other maxxis, exiwolfs and weirwolf LTs on the front. i can't keep the nano off the rear, but i'll switch it up to the others listed above rarely. the key is proper pressure on all of them.

were not to 293ers yet. sorry. 29ers. ha!

Thanks for all the responses guys!!! Oh and sorry to Mathguy for hijacking his question.

I am currently riding a Nano on the rear and an Exi up front. I probably need to mess with tire pressures up front with a guage in hand and take some notes. But so far I must say I really don't care much for the Exiwolf. I feel as if it will let go very abruptly in the corners out at Wilderness. I am sure some of my experiences have to do with rider error. I have way less miles on dirt then many. Around town the Exi is a dream, but I just can't seem to find any love for it when riding quickly on single track.

I am seriously considering the Schwable racing ralph as it seems to look like a very nice tire and has got some rave reviews on the net over at mtbr.com. But I must admit that I prefer the advice of local riders that I actually know, rather than the faceless comments over at mtbr.com. I'm not saying that the people who post there are uneducated, or not worth listening too when it comes to 29er tire choices. I am just very critical about taking advice from the internet when I don't know for sure the source is reputable.

Thanks again to all.

Peace out

Thanks to everyone for the input. I had been looking at the Python for dry condition racing, so based on what was said, it sounds like a good choice for around here. Thanks again!
