She crashed at mile 10... Then raced hard for the next 60mi... Aid station at the finish cleaned it out, now we're at the hospital for the final cleaning... And maybe stitches.
Yikes! This is the first time I've seen this picture. Wow! Nasty is right. Dave, good one. JMK, I told ya, I'm bad luck. Stay away from me.
No stitches. Nothing left to stitch together. It's gonna be one of those slow healers. They shot it up with numbing solution and then proceeded to scrub it real good. Then they got out the tweezers and scissors and picked out all the larger pebbles and cut off the flap of skin that was hanging there. Good times in the ER on a Saturday night. I walked outta there, went back to race celebrations to get my free grub and beer on. We met up with Cornbread and Scott ? later for dinner. Before that we hung out with Perry, the Dakota 5-0 promoter and his wife.
So needless to say, I'll be off the bike for a bit. It hurts like hell today. All of the nerves that survived are waking up and they're pissed. And Ryan has been a great nurse. He looks pretty good in white!
Thanks for your well wishes, all. Keep an eye on dirtgirldiary.com for a race report.
I also crashed on mile 10 of the Laramie Enduro back in '05. Did you crash on that long downhill with the gulley in the middle? I later learned that several other poor souls crashed on that same downhill. Get well soon!
Gary, It was an open gravel service road. Someone else on mtbr forums said he crashed near the same area but I tell ya there wasn't anything special about the trail. That's probably what saved me. I was relaxed and not expecting to crash so I kinda rolled with it, so to speak. I didn't have time to tense up. Just dumb luck. If you read my blog post, in the comments, one of the dudes who was right next to me posted a comment. Small world. Thanks for your well wishes!

Maybe stitches? Looking at the hole in her knee I would say so. I hope she feels better. Take care of her.
