TNR for Dec 10?

Well, probably going to be too much snow to hit any trails Thursday. Might even be too much that hasn't been cleared to hit gravel reliably. Assuming a wind will be out of the north/west, here's my proposal. Meet BlueLine Coffee downtown at 6pm, rollout 6:10pm, head north on 20th, Florence Blvd, etc... ride ponca road west and then back on calhoun road. Then Hwy 36 West to 72nd, 72nd South to state st, State St back to Wenninghoff, Wenninghoff back to Keystone, Keystone to Western, Western back to Blue Line. Basically all paved, strategically taking advantage of neighborhood streets to shield from wind when going North, with some good hills in there to keep us warm. Pace will be moderate to keep everyone warm. You can't mess around too much when its 18deg outside. Rear blinky, gloves, balaclavas, eye coverage, chemical toe warmers and hand warmers are probably a requirement. Leave a comment if you're in. I reserve the right to change route if wind conditions are different than anticipated.
Monday's ride at 17deg up to Tranq & back was good, now too much snow.... but if we stick to pavement we can do it!

What style of bike are you recommending? Cross bike? Mtb?

Cyclocross or MTB. Or full on road bike if you are awesome. If you run singlespeed, gear it pretty tall for pavementj, and bring your strong legs.

How do you think 28's on a road bike will fare for this ride? I'd rather not subject my nicer MTB to the road chemicals.

On another note, could someone create a posting for people to comment about what trail conditions are like on the MTB trails? Something like "If you rode snow on any trials, please post conditions in a comment here." Dunno, just an idea. I'd hate to travel to Tranq if the best snow riding is at Manawa.

Thanks!

You guys are crazy. As much as I hate riding my trainer, it looks like a better alternative than dancing with the cars at night on snowy and icy roads. Good luck and stay safe.

I'm afraid there may be too much snow to make trail riding any fun. Assuming 8" snow with 12+" drifts, riding trails will be a disaster. Unless you have a ski bike. I'd rather hike than ride snowy trails at 3mph.

I will try to make it.

Stay tuned to blog in case I wuss out. Wind conditions can be a deal breaker.

Ouch, I'm calling 20 degree rule, which means...I'm out.

You'll probably be able to find me on skinny skis over at Elmwood though.

Ok, not enough interest. wind chill at 6pm is supposed to be well below zero. Plus, with a call cancelled I have the opportunity to get outside this afternoon before the sun goes down, warmest part of the day. I'm on it.

Skinny skis sound fun; anybody else? Same time? 6-ish?
