Sugarbottom Recon

The Trek O/MWCC travel squad left Madison a little early in hopes of cranking out some laps at Sugarbottom rec area in North Liberty. I took a chance and didn't check the website before we headed off. Upon arrival Mr.T thinks he saw a sign saying trail closed. Sure enough, trail closed.

We at least had to check out the trail so we hiked in to take a look. Trails looked dry and rideable so were left with a loss for words. Halfway home, and no riding to be had. Bummer, because the weather we left behind in Madison was perfect and they had a demo going on in the morning.

When we get back to the toaster van we see a couple guys, one talking on the phone making crazy hand gestures. I go over to chat with his buddy and find out that the website and voice machine said the trail is closed but the park ranger said they should be open. 20 minutes later, gate is unlocked, and we're ready to roll.

I was pumped, Sugarbottom is some of the best, if not the best singletrack in Iowa. The flow is amazing. Guess they got some rain after we took off, glad we got the time in when we did. Big thanks to the guys from Dubuque and Des Moines that got the gates unlocked.
