TREK throws down the gauntlet

Okay, I know, I know, I'm throwing out a ton of TREK stuff up on the blog but this is the last of it I swear. So while we were up in Madison, the buzz around the show was some BIG announcement John Burke was going to give. Nobody knew, not reps, not product managers, nobody. We all show up in cattle call style. Was it a new clothing line? Carbon fiber tandem? Ideas covered everything. JB starts his chat throwing up graphs and charts about obesity, congestion, carbon emmisions, enough to make Al Gore proud. As he goes on I'm beggining to like the sound of where he's going. He ends up with the perfect solution to our current epidemic...

GO BY BIKE, 1 WORLD, 2 WHEELS

Soon, JB is seated with the who's who of bicycle advocacy. Before we know, JB has pledged to donate $10 to IMBA for every full suspension bike TREK sells for the next 3 years. Only a mere $600,000 donation. Build more trails and people will ride more bikes. This is cool...

Not enough? next up is the League of America Bicyclists. These guys run the Bicyle Friendly Community program that Omaha is striving to obtain through the help of KP and her killer staff at ACT!vate Omaha. JB pledges $1 for every helmet Trek sells for the next 3 years to the BFC program. Chalk up another $1,000,000 for cycling, a number that will quadruple the BFC's annual budget!!! Getting cooler...

As I fight the tears and let my goose bumps subside, JB finish's his presentation and we get ready to load the buses for the evenings festivities. What? No buses? how do we get there? Bikes? What? Yes bikes, 1000 bikes to be precise. 1000 Trek bikes waiting for us with helmets, headlights and taillights, ready for our 3 mile ride to the kickball field. Cool, very cool indeed...

That's a ton of bikes
