I like how $360,000 grant got turned into $500,000 in the article.
Little bit curious on what is going to happen in 60 acres for $360,000. We put in over 5 miles of trails in 100 acres for less than $50,000 including purchasing all the equipment and tools.
wowt also did a story with mtb video actually shot at Tranquility to show what Adams will be like.
Can't believe the negativity in the comments though. You learn more about the person and their view than about what is actually going on or what usually happens with something they don't know anything about.
My guess is 360K goes not just for trails but rehabbing community center, parking lot, and other old or new infrastructure.
ketv mispoke when they said Omaha has no other mtb trails. Also interesting the Kent is identified with Activate Omaha on wowt and THOR on ketv.
If anything, shows different perspectives, use of terms and info, in their presentation and how they are different from my or your perspective on this project.
I was down at the tac building picking up my kid from the career center and i couldn't believe the number of bikes out and about. Everything from commuters to kids out riding around. I think this will be a popular trail for the residents of that area. If we want more trails, we got to get behind this and let the city know what we are capable of..
Tranquility had some illegal activity (methheads, etc.) earlier but the mtb trail moved them elsewhere.
mtb trails have a history of improving the makeup and use of an area. Adams Park is exactly the right place for this gateway trail; especially with two schools and a community center bordering the park!
Most reading this blog already have access to other mtb trails and don't need a closer option for our convience. This trail is primarily for the neighborhood, i.e. the locals.
I think many people's views of this area are unbalanced by only hearing bad news often associated with it. But there are many times more good people who should have opportunties to live an active life closer to their home.
mtb'ing can change people's lives, it changed mine, and it has changed for the good many others.
You are right dale. Helped out our park too. The increased traffic of legitimate users pushed the addicts, underage drinkers, and perverts out of the area. The neighbors were happy with it. No more needles, no more used condoms, and only the beer cans that we forget to pick up after we're done. We make sure to pick them up the next day.
Apathy fueled by a sour grapes attitude only allows the status quo to continue. Take your neighborhood back. Travel to the trail to help them take their neighborhood back. Travel with a buddy if you're that scared. It's a good practice anyway.
This is only the beginning. The public awareness of our sport and trails has begun. With TV crews as Tranq. there is some public knowledge of area trail systems. We just need to keep working at it. Shim, with your help, we'll get there.
After leaving the trail building session I stopped by to see Larry at Olympia Cycle on 40th & Hamilton. I talked with a father and son who were buying the youngster's first MTB. I mentioned the new trail and the boy's eyes lit up and he asked his dad if he could take his new bike over there RIGHT NOW! Upon hearing this, a woman and her pre-teen daughter who live near the park wanted to know more about the trail. Then she wanted a bike, too! If this is any indication, I think the Adam's Park MTB Trail will be VERY popular.

that has got to be a first...a post about cycling without a single negative comment on ketv.com.

Should have split the money with a park in another area or increased security. Ill use the other safer parks available.
wow, wowt is a flame fest...

Dale, Eric,
I agree that it should help the area. I hope it does to point where everyone will feel safe riding there.
What a missed opportunity to promote, Jewell, Swanson, Platte, L&C, Manawa, too bad.
